Van wie was Placidia?

Placidia, (443? – 484?) was de jongste dochter van de Romeinse keizer Valentinianus III en zijn vrouw Licinia Eudoxia. Zij was de vrouw van keizer Olybrius.

Zij was voorbestemd om met Olybrius te trouwen, een telg uit de belangrijke Anicii familie.

Tijdens de plundering van Rome (455) werd zij samen met haar moeder Licinia Eudoxia en haar zuster Eudocia meegenomen naar Carthago, de hoofdstad van het Vandalenrijk. Olybrius vluchtte naar Constantinopel.

Haar zuster Eudocia huwde, zoals afgesproken met Hunerik in c.460 . Zij en haar moeder werden voor veel losgeld vrijgelaten en naar Constantinopel gestuurd. In 468 stuurden de Romeinen een strafexpeditie naar Noord-Afrika, met desastreuze afloop als gevolg. (Slag bij Kaap Bon (468)).

Samen hadden ze een dochter Anicia Juliana.

Gaudentius (c. 440 in Rome – after 455) was the son of Flavius Aetius. F. M. Clover has argued that his mother was Pelagia, a Gothic noblewoman and the widow of Bonifacius.

He was born in Rome, probably in 440, and was baptized before his first birthday. Scholars identify him as the unnamed subject of a poem of Flavius Merobaudes. In 454 his father and emperor Valentinian III arranged a marriage alliance, which included the marriage between Gaudentius and Placidia, but that year his father was killed by Valentinian himself. In 455, the Vandals sacked Rome; Gaudentius was one of the countless thousands made a prisoner and brought back to Africa. Gaiseric claimed that his following attacks to Italy were to recover Gaudentius's legacy.
